MAC DIY & Recycling

You can recycle old MAC containers at the MAC store for 1 free makeup item. You will need 6 empty containers. If you're impatient like me or don't use your makeup that much, you can do this DIY for lipsticks.

You will need:
1. MAC lipsticks
2. Bead container with case that you can get at Michael's. They were having a promotion at the time and I got this free. (I will blog about the Michael's deal soon)
3. spoon
4. candle
5. lighter (not pictured)
6. a tool to scoop out the lipstick (I forgot what that tool to push your cuticles is called lol)

Cut the lipstick off and place on a spoon.
Hover over the flame until it melts.
Be sure not to have the flame come in direct contact with the bottom of the spoon so you don't burn it. (I'm like this when I cook too, I'm afraid of burning things)

Make sure you scoop out all the way to the bottom, let's not be wasteful!

When the lipstick completely melts, place in the container. Here is the finished product off the 5 lipsticks I melted.

Make sure when you put the melted lipstick onto the pot, to make sure it's even as it solidifies rather quickly.

Here it is when it's even :).

Now, let's try lipglosses in the tube and in the pot.

Fill a mug with water and microwave for 1 minute (depends on your microwave wattage and settings, heat accordingly)

Place lipglosses and wait 10 minutes.

Take a knife and carefully take out the stopper so the lip gloss will slither out.

Here's the finished product, the lipglosses on the left filled one pot because there wasn't much in the containers. The tube on the right, I squeezed. These have different consistency as they are not solid.

Lastly, we have a solid lip gloss in a pot.

I took my cuticle pusher tool and mixed it together, ooh I love being artsy and playing with makeup! I made a new color too.

I put the lipgloss on a spoon and put it over fire until it melted and I poured it in the new pot.

The lipstick I got for free when I recycled makeup (my sister gave me her used up containers to recycle and the lipstick to keep)

One compact I found in a trash can, the trash can was empty and it had a new plastic bag in it.

The rest are from my sister (she gave me more containers again), so I now have 6 and I can recycle it!

These lipglosses, my sisters have given me. I got free makeup and I am getting free makeup for them! This whole DIY project was free!

Here I have 8 containers but I am not sure which ones I can recycle, I will be going to the MAC store soon and I will ask them. I am hoping to get red lipstick when I recycle these containers. Why red lipstick you ask? Well you're going to stay tuned to my next post. ;)
